Contemporary dance arises from the need to express body movements more freely, but following classical lines. In your contemporary class you will seek to express an idea, a feeling, an emotion through the dancer, but mixing current body movements of this time.
In the beginning, an alternative to the strict technique of classical ballet was sought, which is very square and with very fixed and elegant lines, when dancers appeared dancing barefoot and making freer jumps than the traditional ones on stage, with time, variations appeared. of contemporary dance in which the classical technique was conspicuous by its absence and movements of other body techniques were even introduced, such as flamenco, tribal and African dance movements and body language. Until the end of the Second World War, this renewed style of dance was called modern dance, but its evolution from the late 1940s onwards led to a preference for using the expression contemporary dance. Nowadays, modern techniques give way to a whirlwind of style mixtures, even not making it clear what style it resembles or what patterns are followed.
